The Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong on Thursday paid an officially visit to the President, Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja where he briefed the later on the current security situation in Plateau State.
While briefing news men in the Presidential Villa, Governor Lalong stated that his meeting with Mr. President was a usual one. He commends President Buhari for his fatherly attitude, very timely intervention as he came calling less than 24 hours the Vice President visited the state.
He was overwhelmed with the kind of concern shown to him and the people of Plateau in particular. These gesture according to him, helped and encouraged them to do their best to nip the crisis in the bud.
According to Lalong, “So, after a while, now that there is relative peace in that place it’s my responsibility to come and say `thank you’ to Mr. President, give him a brief and if there are other issues I will also discuss with him,’’ he said”.
The governor went further to state that his administration had submitted some proposals and recommendations to the Presidency towards addressing the challenges facing Plateau State including the killings occasioned by conflicts in the state.
While expressing satisfaction over the outcome of the meeting between President Buhari and the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Lalong said that the problems in Plateau had gone beyond the issue of `blame game’.
He advised all well-meaning citizens of the state to unite and confront the common enemies who were bent on causing chaos and mayhem in the state.
The Governor confirmed that already suspects had been arrested in connection with the recent killings in the state.
He announced the State’s amended Penal Code meant to strengthen criminal justice system in the state would be signed into law next week.
